Paper–Cloth–Thread brings together the work of three established artists whose shared fascination with paper, cloth and thread has been shaped by research into traditional Japanese papermaking and textile techniques. Through richly layered, process-led work, the exhibition explores ideas of time, place, memory and landscape, revealing the expressive possibilities of these interconnected materials.
Working across handmade paper, stitch, weaving and mixed media, the artists create tactile, contemplative works that celebrate both traditional craftsmanship and contemporary practice. Inspired by landscapes, travel and personal histories, the exhibition ranges from sculptural paper forms and woven paper textiles to richly textured abstract compositions that blur the boundaries between paper, cloth and thread.
Together, the exhibition offers a thoughtful exploration of material, making and the enduring connections between people, place and the handmade.
This exhibition is touring to Maidstone Museum from 25 Sept – 4 Dec 2027 and to other venues. Details to be posted when finalised.
Mote Park Art Competition
2025 over eighteen’s winning entry, ‘On the Water’s Edge’, by Hilary Walton.
I am delighted to have been invited as lead judge for this year’s theme is ‘Park Life‘. This could be anything from the wonderful diversity of wildlife in Mote Park, or how it’s used by people such as a family picnic or a large music festival. The exhibition will be held in the Mote Park Learning Space from Monday 26th October – Sunday 8th November, and will be open to the public and is free to visit.

The Fabric of Nature with We Live Here
I am delighted to be part of the Nature Connects project working alongside visual artist Paramjot Kaur and community participants on Fabric of Nature a new large-scale textile artwork that will be exhibited in locations around Medway. The project has been developed by We Live Here, Medway Diversity Forum & Rochester Cathedral working with diverse communities across Medway.

Place:The Shipping Forecast at Alexandra Palace- The Knitting and Stitching Show. 2024, The pandemic, health issues, continuing conflicts and social/economic difficulties has brought many changes to the world in which we now navigate
Place: Shipping Forecast Installation has toured the four nations of the UK and was shown at the beautiful Sint-Anna-ten-Drieën church in Antwerp (summer 2022) through the organisation vzw ANNA3. The exhibition created its own relationship to place in each of the venues it has been installed. In 2026 it was at St Mary’s Burham alongside Rosie James Crowd Cloud over the Summer Solstice weekend which also marked World Refugee Day.
